Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take special orders? Yes. There is a list of frequently ordered items on the special order menu page. Don't see what you're looking for? Contact me and we can discuss what you're looking for.

Why aren't you open every day? I am a one-woman operation. I am the baker, dishwasher, custodian, banker, bookkeeper, laundress, marketing person, shopper, and, most of the time, the counter person. For every hour that I am open, I am here at least another hour, prepping, baking and/or cleaning. I also shop for fresh ingredient each week. I do not order bulk ingredients from suppliers. This helps to ensure the freshness, and quality of my ingredients. It also means that I spend the majority of my money in the Kansas City community.

Do you offer gluten-free/vegetarian/vegan/dairy-free options? I make an effort to always have at least 2 gluten-friendly options available, and most of my items are vegetarian-friendly. Please note that all items are made in the same kitchen, with the same equipment, which is why I use the term gluten-friendly, rather than gluten-free. I am also happy to take special orders for gluten-friendly items, with a minimum order of one full batch. I do not offer any vegan or dairy-free items at this time. 

Do you make wedding cakes? I have had the privilege of being involved with lots of special days, including weddings. Simple, elegant, delicious party cakes and dessert buffets are very popular these days.  As for large, stacked fondant-covered cakes, I do not offer that service, but I would be happy to offer a referral.

What is the best/quickest way to contact you? As I am frequently helping customers or wrist-deep in dough, I often do not check phone messages until the end of the day. I do, however, check my email, yumkansascity@gmail.com, throughout the day.
